Removal of a huge brain tumour from a child through the nose - Report from the Neurosurgery Clinic in Debrecen

Prof. Reisch and his colleagues at the Neurosurgery Clinic in Debrecen have removed a huge tumour in the ventricle of the brain through the nose. The 12-year-old child was diagnosed with visual disturbances and the tumour could only be partially removed during the first operation last year. Now the craniopharyngioma was completely resected in an 8-hour operation through the nose using an endoscopic technique. The procedure went without complications and Mihai survived the operation well.

The ENOMIN College turns 10

The ENDOMIN College was founded in 2014. Our aim is to offer comprehensive and practice-orientated training and further education in the field of minimally invasive neurosurgery and neuroendoscopy. This year we are planning 4 courses in Zurich and Budapest with overview lectures, practical exercises and live surgeries.

Endoscopic skull base surgery in Hungary

In recent years, Prof Reisch has supported motivated working groups at the National Institute of Neurosurgery in Budapest (OMIII) and at the University Hospital of Debrecen, Hungary. As part of his charitable activities, he regularly performs complex skull base surgery and trains young colleagues. In 2024, Prof. Reisch was appointed Academic Director of Skull Base Surgery at the National Institute of Neurosurgery – an extraordinary honour and recognition.

World Congress of Neuroendoscopy in Singapore

The World Congress of Neuroendoscopy was held in Singapore this year. Prof Reisch was invited to give a key note lecture on endoscopic transnasal skull base surgery.

Revolutionary 3D visualisation and robot-controlled microsurgery

Prof. Reisch and Prof. Hopf are developing a digital 3D 4K visualisation system for brain and skull base surgery in collaboration with Karl Storz. The aim is to replace the classic surgical microscope with a revolutionary 3D “exoscope”. The first generation is already available for clinical use. The surgeon no longer has to work on the surgical field with the microscope – he operates ergonomically and views a high-resolution 4K monitor with 3D glasses. This allows safer manipulation and therefore the highest microsurgical precision.

After extensive preparatory work, Prof Reisch and Prof Hopf tested the new generation of the “Vitom 3D Eagle Exoscope” in the laboratory and in the operating theatre. The new robot-controlled prototype has fulfilled the high expectations. The first trials of the final product at the Hirslanden Clinic are expected to take place in the 2nd quarter of 2024. We are very excited!

ENDOMIN Centre Budapest

Our former fellow, Dr László Entz, has been appointed as a senior physician at the ENDOMIN Centre Zurich in 2021. His interests lie in the field of minimally invasive treatment of complex brain, skull base and spinal diseases, as well as cranial and spinal pain syndromes.

In 2023, Dr Entz returned to Hungary and founded the ENDOMIN Centre Budapest in cooperation with the MIND Clinic. However, he remains accredited in Zurich, where he holds consultations and regularly operates at the Hirslanden Clinic as our portal doctor.

The Swiss Neuro Radiology Institute (SNRI) opened its doors in January 2020

The SNRI specialises in the field of neuroradiology and is dedicated to the research, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system. In this sense, the SNRI not only offers comprehensive neuroradiological diagnostics (CT, MRI and fluoroscopy), but also specialised consultation. The ENDOMIN team with Prof. Reisch has established an interdisciplinary consultation hour at the SNRI, where patients can also make an appointment for diagnostics and subsequent personal consultation.
